Red Queen - Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen, by Victoria Aveyard is the first book of a young adult, fantasy series with the same name about a world in which there are two kinds of people - those whose blood has a red colour and those whose blood has a silver colour. The Silvers have special abilities which enables them overpower the Reds, who live in very bad conditions and tend to hate the Silvers. Our main character, Mare, is a Red, destined to serve the military in her next birthday, but her story is much more complicated than that...
I really enjoyed this book because it has an original theme which brings new ideas to the in my opinion overused dystopian-kind of stories. The love story behind it is entertaining and has you unset for a period of time, not quite sure about what Mare really feels and about whom. There is a plot twist that I certainly did not expect - which is good!

About the characters, they are generally pretty strong and well-built. I especially loved one of the male protagonists, Cal, and the mentor, Julian. They are both so sweet and interesting, and I think they still hide some surprising aspects that are still to come on the next books of the trilogy.

It is a fast-to-read book, with no very complex writing but still beautiful. The next book of the series will come out on February 9th 2016, and I have already pre-ordered it! ;)

Sweet Reads!
